Shaheen & Gordon

Attorneys at law

This noted Concord law firm was outgrowing its traditional offices near the capitol. At the same time they recognized that their old space did not fit their somewhat non-traditional client base including musicians and recording industry tycoons. They wanted more hip, loft-style space and they purchased an old brick warehouse with a print shop in the basement.

The transition from the old industrial use required the addition of a new elevator and shaft which we chose to put outside of the building envelope to create a new entry lobby. A newly cut atrium connects the two-level offices and exposes the old timberframe construction of the warehouse. Work spaces for partners and support staff are arranged for clarity, privacy and to improve daylighting. Bold colors accent the three-dimensional composition. Outside, we received a special dispensation from Concord to restore the historic signage painted on the brick to retain the nineteenth century character of the block.
