Danbury Community Ctr.

This unique project
involved the relocation of a 19th century church to serve as a
community center and pre-school. Funded in part by a federal grant,
the Town of Danbury purchased the vacant Baptist Church, adjacent to
the Town Hall. The building suffered from the lack of proper
foundations (concrete-filled kegs served as footings), a seasonal
stream that ran underneath it, and an obscure location off the main
street. The Town wanted to move the building about 150 yards, turn
it and set it down on a new walk-out basement. In its new location
it faces onto the town center intersection and helps reinforce the
village image. Exterior trim and steeple details were all rebuilt.
Both levels were made accessible. It is now in constant use as an
integral part of town life. Construction Administration services
were provided by Bauen Corporation of Meredith, NH.
